Acceptable Use Policy

Effective 1 Jul 2026 Last updated 1 Jul 2026

1. Purpose & applicability

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets the rules for use of the Esto Networks backbone and all Services — transit, leased lines, IPTV, peering, colocation, and NOC. It protects the integrity of the network, our other customers, and the internet at large.

The AUP applies to you as a customer and, through you, to your downstream networks and end users. You are responsible for ensuring your customers' traffic complies. It forms part of the contract for any Service; a breach is a breach of that contract.

2. Prohibited content & activity

You must not use the Services to transmit, host, or knowingly carry:

  • Content that is unlawful under Indian law, including the Information Technology Act and rules made under it.
  • Material that infringes copyright, trademark, or other intellectual-property rights.
  • Malware, and the command-and-control of botnets or other malicious infrastructure.
  • Unsolicited bulk messaging ("spam") or traffic that violates anti-spam or telemarketing regulations.
  • Content that harms minors, or that is otherwise prohibited by a competent authority.

3. Network & routing integrity

The backbone is a shared resource. You must not:

  • Announce prefixes you are not authorised to originate — route hijacking and the announcement of bogons or unallocated space are prohibited. Announcements must be backed by valid IRR objects and RPKI ROAs where applicable.
  • Spoof source addresses — you must apply source-address validation (BCP 38) on your edge.
  • Conduct unauthorised scanning, denial-of-service attacks, amplification, or reflection against any target.
  • Exceed contracted capacity in a way that degrades the network, or circumvent traffic controls.

We operate RPKI ROV and drop invalids on peering and transit edges. Downstream networks may use our RTBH community to null-route attack traffic at our edge — see the Connectivity product for community values.

4. IPTV & broadcast rights

Where you take IPTV-as-a-service, you must carry channels only within the territorial and distribution rights we make available, and must not re-transmit, sublicense, or redistribute content outside the terms of the applicable broadcast agreement.

You must honour the content-protection and compliance obligations that flow from Schedule X of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules and from the broadcasters' agreements, including any lawful-intercept and audit requirements.

5. Security & lawful compliance

You must secure your own systems, apply timely patches, and not use the Services in a way that exposes the backbone to compromise. You must cooperate with lawful requests and with our licence obligations as an Indian ISP and MSO, including lawful-intercept provisioning where applicable.

You must not attempt to access accounts, data, or systems — ours or another customer's — without authorisation.

6. Enforcement

Where we identify a breach, our response is proportionate to the risk. Depending on severity we may:

  1. Notify you and require remediation within a stated window.
  2. Filter, rate-limit, or null-route (RTBH) offending traffic to protect the network.
  3. Suspend the affected Service.
  4. Terminate for material or repeated breach, per the contract.

Where a threat is active and severe — an ongoing attack, or a lawful order — we may act first and notify immediately after, to protect the network and other customers.

7. Reporting abuse

To report abuse originating from or transiting the Esto network — spam, attacks, infringement, or a compromised host — contact our abuse desk with logs and timestamps in IST. Our NOC operates 24×7 for active incidents.

Abuse: [email protected] · NOC (24×7): +91 62832 85600

8. Changes & contact

We may update this AUP as threats and regulation evolve; the effective and last-updated dates reflect the current version. Material changes will be posted here and, where they affect a Service, notified to your registered contact.
